This is the second Kimber 1911 that I've run hard in a year, and it's the second time that I've had a pistol run exactly like it should on initial usage. The first pistol was a Master Carry Pro in .45 ACP that I shot over 1,100 rounds with, without adding any lubrication, right out of the box.I switched from EDC Glock 23 to the Kimber Pro Carry II then after about a year I obtained a Ultra RCP II and it has become my EDC. All in .45 ACP. I kept my Glocks as I like the platform but those damm 1911's keep calling me back. The primary thing I think was they reduced the amount of the carry melt treatment a little. The basic difference between Series II and pre-series II (like yours) is the Series II guns have a Swartz firing pin safety.Traveling can be an exciting and adventurous experience, but it can also be stressful, especially when it comes to packing. Also the Colt/Talo Commander has a normal guide rod and plug so field stripping is traditional. I think if I wanted to carry a little 1911 again I would look at the ones Ruger recently introduced.

Buy the Pro Carry give it a fair try out. I carry a Super Carry Ultra Plus every day. The Pro size is a doable carry piece. Classic Carry Pro w/Bone grips. You even said it at the end of the review… Function vs form. That Glock will run longer and better than the Kimber. No need to change the recoil spring after 800 rounds like Kimber recommends for its pistol. Don’t get me wrong, the Kimber looks great, but considering cost, fire power and reliability, Glock wins hands down.
