2003 Prairie 360 Timing and carb. Hello, Finally just purchased my first 4x4 atv. I have always had sport quads. This one is a 2003 Prairie 360 in excellent shape. I got for a steal in my opinion. "The owner said it always ran great but started smoking so had the top end rebuilt by a local mechanic.We are completely going through the carburetor on the Kawasaki Prairie 300. This carb is cleaned, rebuild, and reassembled as we walk through the entire proc...Make sure the choke is off before doing this. While holding a steady, high idle, use the adjustment tool (short screwdriver that will fit in the space under the carb) to slowly screw the fuel mixture screw clockwise. Tighten the screw until the engine rpm drops (and nearly dies), then slowly turn the screw back out, counterclockwise.

All I have is a 25 foot tape and it shows about 1 1/8" width. So well below specs. Which also means deflection is also way out of spec by maybe 1/2" or so. Looking at the service manual it does not look like a simple belt change and adjustment. Several special tools and so forth.

That is your starting place for a good idle. You can tweak the screw in or out up to a full turn to get a nice smooth idle without any missing or lumpyness on a fully warmed engine.
